Toddler Cane

RESEARCH, PROTOTYPE, INDUSTRIAL

As an organization, Safe Toddles is working on improving access to safe mobility for children who are severely visually impaired and blind. Current white canes are not designed for developmental or physical differences in toddlers, and we sought to explore this problem space.

As Creative Director, my primary goal was to research, prototype and design, and work with developers to create the first usable, wearable cane for toddlers. The Toddler Cane became the first early-intervention wearable, hands-free cane for children under 5. In our research with prototypes, we saw an increase in the range that parents felt comfortable allowing their children to explore and the children showed an immediate, positive change in their mood.
